Forgive me if I don't know the proper term for it, but Unity allows us to keyframe components of a character like a paper puppet with pivot points to function as joints. Now I know there are several commercial 2D Skeletal Animation packages but I was just looking for a tutorial on the 1, 2, 3 step method to take a cut up vector art character with detached arms, legs and head and piece it together and generate animations.

If you know of a link which is even close to what I'm looking for I'd appreciate it. When I try and use the method illustrated by sprite sheet demo's, I drag several of the body parts onto an empty game object and it does prompt me for an animation name, but then only 1 body part appears on screen and I'm stumped where to go from there.
