2D Lights?

    Will Unity be adding 2D lighting, shadows ect?

    You can add a material to your sprites for this which uses the Sprites Diffuse shader, this will allow you to use lighting on your 2d sprites.

    Yes but ideally a 2D lighting solution would be blockable and cast shadows based on objects within the scene?

    Currently if I add a 3D light into a 2D scene it does not light up nor cast shadows in the way I would expect.

    E.g. placing the 3D light on the same Z position as the object and it has no effect until you decrease it's Z value.

    So is the workaround to create 3d cubes/meshes with sprites on them and let them cast shadows?

    +1 I really wanted an efficient lighting solution. The one I bought in the Asset store sucks cause it destroys my fps
