2D Highlight only portion of image, darken the rest.

I have an image, and there is an area I would like to focus onto. So I thought maybe I can darken the surrounding of the image and leave the part I want to focus on alone. Something like this:


Is there any way to do this? Maybe invert a mask but can't seem to figure it out.
