Awesome work! It's astonishing what you're able to produce with Unity.
Now if only we had a dirt bike or a monster truck to speed and jump around the terrain :D

Is the egg tied to the trees and grass? So if I set the tree and grass draw distance to 0 (= off) will I still be able to see the egg?

Thank you very much, I can't belive that I won in the first round (even if my Name is misspelled ;). I chose WorldComposer as the price (I sent Peter a message), as I already bought TerrainComposer two days ago.

I have to say that the new Version is so astonishing that I was playing it again for several hours. This is really a masterpiece, and the fact that it only took about 36 hours to produce it is even more fascinating! Congratulations you two!

I find this to be a good question, what hapens when grass and trees are turned off? Would you still see the egg? As this would enable an Advantage if trees where not in the way.

    oO HOLY !?

I just checked the thread for the egg. Thanks so much !
I already own RTP and use a standalone heightmap tool. Your latest build looks brilliant so its easy to choose TerrainComposer.
Can't wait to try it :)

Fantastic work guys ! Even if got my prize, I will take another tour just because its so beautiful

    cheers

So, I've started it, and it's been at a black screen for several minutes now. How long does this take to load?

Actually it should not take long... at least on windows, you could try the 32 bit mac build... maybe we are doing something wrong when building for mac, though

Alright... I was just sitting there at a black screen... I eventually force quit. I'll try the 32-bit.

Well, I was thinking, I would just take a look around for 5 mins and quit "The Search" but after 30 mins, I found myself wandering around for good points to take some pano shots. Really good job, for such a short amount of time.

Only one thing more to add; In my humble opinion, this demo needs a dynamic sky. I'm sure you're already aware of some wonderful time of day assets out there.

Anyway, here are some screenshots and pano shots out of my walk around "The Search"

Yeah Chad also pointed this out... we are using Application.CaptureScreenshot and store it in the build data folder, maybe that does not work on mac as expected, we'll look into it. Sorry for not having a solution for you right now. Try search for TheSearch1.png maybe you can find where it goes for mac.

I would love to vote, but it says votes left(0). For some reason I had given all my 10 votes to another Post although I would have only given 1 for that post. Can I now no longer Vote or when do I get to Vote for something else again? I can’t find any information about voting. Or do I just have 10 Votes a year or something like that.

I think you only have 10 Votes ever... but you can remove votes again and use them elsewhere, this would be a good reason to do so, lets see how many we can get... although there are some things with 1000+ votes that get ignored... so yeah like Nathaniel said, lets hope the best

Definitely agree with gurayg, a dynamic sky would be an amazing asset for this terrain.

I am glad I purchased Terrain Composer on sale, the demo has given so many ideas for future projects. Thanks Nathaniel and Peter for these amazing assets.

I really like the map included in the new build, surely helps with the navigation. I was wondering if it would be possible to implement a start point based on the location selected by the user on the map, this would allow the user to start from different locations. Also if possible it would be great if you could make the movement speed a slider. I have a very slow graphics card and I am really amazed at the response I am getting from this build, great work in such a short time.

Now for some screenshots and panoramas

I just save the position.dat to another folder like North, south, west and east and others when I get there. Then if I want to start bottom right I just switch the file. If you delete position.dat a new file will be created when you start the terrain.

    I gave my vote.

On a side note about performance, I loose a considerable amount of fps whenever the camera is facing the sun. The post processing effects involved with the sun flares take a major toll on the frame rate.

Also, check out this video to learn more about terrain optimization and common problems in Unity. It is really good.

Good luck to the rescue teams still searching for the one or two missing climbers that are missing after an avalanche swept 12 people off of Mount Rainier early Saturday morning. Reports say the avalanche occurred at 4:45am, was 300-400′ wide, 1-2 meters deep, ran about 1,200′ and was located at about the 12,500′ level on the Ingraham Direct route on the southeast side of the mountain. Groups of climbers ran for their lives when they saw the plume of snow coming at them. Some were able to avoid being caught, but others couldn’t and were overtaken by the avalanche. About 5 people were buried and eventually dug out by other climbers, but a climber and/or a skier who were reportedly in the area are still believed to me missing. Dangerous conditions have currently hindered rescue efforts.

I watched the video and didn't know Unity was doing anything on terrain. The last time I talked to them about it a few months ago they told me they had no roadmap for it. The video doesn't talk about any Unity terrain core engine optimalizations. Only about a simple streaming solution from a paperwork of the 90's.

However how do you want to stream 900 km terrain with this single level solution? and getting details like the demo we made? It's not possible this way, Tom, Peter and me already found solutions for a more advanced streaming that can make it possible.

I will contact Unity about it and try to find out what they are planning and if there's some way of collaborating...

    Hi Nathaniel,
Is there any chance of a new clue?
For example: In the mountains or on the plains?
You could even announce a time or day for the revealing of a clue, so that everyone gets the chance.

    Hello Eagleeyez,

It's better to focus on making screenshots and you could even run into the egg, it's in plain sight, it's not hidden in any tree, just lying on the ground somewhere in the terrain.

But image finding a 1 meter cube in 30 km x 30 km terrain in reallife...How hard that is...We will add more gadgets over the updates, which makes searching more easy ;).

I really love the Unity community and your commitment to help see this engine grow. I'm new to this engine but the community itself has really impressed me and I hope they collaborate with you or see in part your vision and have enough resources to allocate which can only help more of it's users achieve their desired end results in their products. I voted +10 in the feedback for the improved unity terrain core engine. I came here from other products that I felt didn't evolve with the changing times at a fast enough rate. I find much more value now in these posts than just finding an egg it's helping push Unity in new directions, Awesome!

    Definitely in the .app itself

Right click the .app and choose Show Package Contents
Then go to the Contents/Data folder and you can see them in there
Included a couple of screenshots for you

Strange that the 64 bit version does not work however ...

The 64-bit Mac build doesn't work... Use the 32-bit one.
