Bug 2020.2.0a19 visual effect graph not working

    If I try to open a *.vfx file, the visual effect graph editor does not load the file and suggests me to create a new one.

    Also, a Windows popup appears asking me to choose an application to use to open the file:

    In the console, this error appears:

    Latest alpha probably requires changes not present in 8.2.

    There is no released 10.x release for 2020.2 alphas but it's probably going to beta this month so there's at least a chance we'll actually be getting some 10.x release. Meanwhile the alternative is to clone these packages from https://github.com/Unity-Technologies/Graphics/ and find version that works (I know currently bleeding edge HDRP requires a20 which isn't out the time I write this - had to revert one commit manually to make it run).

    Meanwhile, I think it would be nice for Unity to address SRP updates for Unity alpha and beta users. People who's been using these using bleeding edge stuff from github are used to this but we see threads like this pop up a lot and I think it's mainly because Unity hasn't communicated about lacking SRP support during alphas and betas (things may or may not work by the time new version comes out). What also makes this even worse is that often older versions SRP's get flagged as "Verified" for new alpha or beta even when they are not 100% compatible.

    It seems to be a problem with Selection Groups inside visual effect graph not working with latest UI Toolkit 1.0.0-preview-6.
    It's an editor issue, not a runtime one.

    I will crosspost with the UI Toolkit post if they aknowledge / offer a solution for that.

    Unity staff told us this has been fixed in 2020.2.0a20.
