I am unable to run in offline mode. I did a manual activation of my license to see if that would help but it doesn't.

If I disable my internet connections it will recognize its as offline and i can get into unity.

As soon as i reconnect it prompts again for the login. I enter my account it, waits and says work offline. I choose work offline. The window closes and then another opens again. This happens constantly.

I am currently in China and it seems the login server is not available.
I did not have these issues previously on 5.6.

Basically its not possible to use 2017 now. As being disconnected from the internet is not really an option.

Offline is also not working for me on 2017.1, when i open unity when there's no internet it simply shows an empty window and i cant select any projects or anything. hopefully this is not intended and will be fixed soon?

I've also ran into the same problem i.e. when I start Unity without a net connection it prompts me to work offline, however after clicking the button, I end up with an empty window same as @CyanSlinky.

A simple workaround for now is to open the scene you are working on directly from Windows Explorer. This way you'll be able to keep working on you project instead of having to rollback.

Same here. I lost internet connection two times in the past two days and I couldn't work on my projects due to the issue described.

Is there a way to force offline mode or somehow avoid launcher while opening the projects?

    Edit :
I tried to open the recent project from the context menu in the taskbar, but that still starts the Launcher.

    Why isn't it working?

    EDIT:

Removing the licence files from the programdata folder and redoing the activation process, the launcher should be able to work now.

Doesn't work for me :(. The launcher still show blank instead of giving me the work offline option if i block it with firewall.

Either let unity access their server or turn off your wifi. Opening the scene workaround works though

The computer is completely disconnected from the network (no network cable is connected, Wi-Fi is turned off):

    1. At the first start, right after the splash screen, an empty window appears, in which there should be a list of projects.
    2. When I close the window and start Unity again, the window will show the button for going offline, but it does not work.
    3. And only after the next closing of the window and restart runs as expected - the switch button works and a list of projects appears.

When your computer is connected to a network without internet, it seems that Unity just wait for internet to come without giving the choice to work offline.

Try to disconnect from your network by unplugging the cable/disabling your network and relaunch Unity, it should work.

The problem with mine was a problem with my ISP that knocked a subset of websites out for a while.
Trello, Pocket, and the Unity app (plus some others) would not connect. Going offline started Unity, but I need to download a bought asset so that didn't help.

I had to wait till the ISP fixed the issue and it now connects fine.

Still, Unity should fail gracefully if it can't connect, not sit in a loop with a blank page. very naughty design!

I have been doing the same as has been mentioned by opening the scene I want using my file explorer and this works. My problem is that instead of opening my space shooter project for example it makes a new project called assets (the name of the child directory in my space shooter project) so I end up with the 2 projects that open the same location and that has caused me some issues pls fix it unity!

Yes, so it is, Unity tries to create another on-project in an empty window ...
I just close it and continue to work with the current project.
    Everything works fine.
Try to save in the old project a new scene ( * .unity ) and open Unity through it.

I'll posture everything works fine for me.

I also encountered this with unity 2017.1.1f1. Was able to have unity running originally without internet, then for a month I had internet connected when I moved to a temporarily residence, after that I lost internet access and unity stopped working, just show a blank screen.

Today I used ccleaner to fix the registry and it seems to work again, however I'm not sure if it would work for other computers.

Yes, I had to disable my network interface in my System Settings to solve this issue.

Specifically (on a Mac), I had to go to:

System Settings -> Network -> Select my active Ethernet connection on the left -> Click the gear icon under the list of services -> Make service inactive

After I disabled my Ethernet connection, Unity allowed me to work offline. For Wifi, I presume one would click "Turn Wifi off" in the menu bar, but I haven't tested this.

FYI, I tried to see if the same thing would work with sudo ifconfig en0 down but no dice. I hoped it would work since that command is faster than clicking through System Settings. Yet, Unity offers the same blank loading screen even when I try that ifconfig incantation. So System Settings is the only solution on a Mac, I guess.

Nonetheless, this was a very frustrating issue and made me lose the better part of a workday. I couldn't even look up how to get Unity 2017 to work offline until I had my internet connection back.

Unity, if you're reading this, please make it so that there is always an option to work offline. At least, please make it so that Unity will stop trying to connect after a certain amount of time. People shouldn't have to mess around to get work done when they've lost internet.

It kind of just seemed to fix its self. This is on my home machine where I keep updating to the latest unity to test new features. So it could also be resolved in a newer version.

    Hello 2017. 2019 here

The licensing system has always been a pain in the ass for me. And why would we need Always-Online DRM for a F***ing free product. But I digress.

Today I went through the offline activation process several times, each time yielding a slightly different result. Although the end result was the same altogether. It didn't work. Have a look:

Window after completing the offline activation
    Untitled.png

And when i finally open the editor.
    Untitled2.png

The pinnacle of innovation. Right here. I'm guessing they are pushing a narrative, i wouldn't be surprised to see offline licensing to completely go away in future releases.
You'll be able to access offline mode if you live in a cave and never connect to the internet, because as soon as you open the internet you get this cute little popup. (And screams at the screen)

For anyone tired of their bs

edit: why's my profil pic gone

Just enable airplane mode & restart unity. It'll work.
