Hey i'm looking at my options of what game engines to use for a project and I think Unity should work fine. A little bit about it: DOOM era pixelated graphics, sprite heavy, lots o' cutscenes, I want to be able to have a predominately DOOM93 looking game in first person, and I want to be able to have 3rd person sections as well, walls and ceilings need to have that 2D scrolly look that (again)was done well in DOOM.

So, is this the right engine for me?

    Don't!

I think @neginfinity emulated that Doom look quite well in unity. He probably has a thread about it somewhere.

You should be able to use billboards instead of 3D models for your characters, and I'd imagine using some really pixelated textures would go a long way towards the look of old school walls and floors.

You do know that Doom93 has since been ported to Unity, right?

Like when you play Doom on PS4 or Xbox, it’s actually running in Unity.

So can this be done in Unity?

    Yes. It already has been.

    That said, no.

This is a terrible idea for a game.

    It’s terrible for multiple reasons:

    -WAY too much scope.

-Avoid story and cut scenes, no one cares and it’s a massive time sink.

-Pixel art is getting REALLY cliche. Remember 10 years ago when everyone was like “Ugh, more zombies”? now it’s like “Ugh, more pixel art”.
