    Digital Roar Studios would like to support the indie game community by offering a bundle of fantasy RTS assets that are free for comercial use. This pack contains un-rigged and un-animated fantasy characters, props and audio (SFX and Music). Models have UVs and most all of them should be textured. Please feel free to do what you want with these. They were originally created for a now dead RTS project. Currently Digital Roar is working on a space shooter called Ascension. You can check out the current title here:

    www.ascensionwar.com

    Also if you like the models and would like to help support our current project, we have a kickstarter.com campane going on that we would love your support on.

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/johnlyons/ascension-war-incursio

    Please feel free to reseed this download as well as post more screenshots here and anywhere else that you think indie developers can make use of these assets.

    Download here:

    Thanks,

    Zachariah Inks
    Creative Director

    @LamentConfig

    I am glad you like them. There are tons more in the download, but I just don't have time to take and upload screenshots of them all. If anyone finds any of them interesting and wants to post more screenshots, please feel free.

    This is incredibly generous of you. I don't have much use for these myself, but I would buy you several beers just on principle.

    Best post ever.

    Would anyone be able to upload this to dropbox, megaupload, rapidshare, etc? I, unfortunately, cannot access any torrent due to my ISP.

    On a side note, thank you so much for an upload like this. The indie community will surely benefit from it!

    Thank you so much, very very thoughtful of you guys for releasing something like this free for commercial purposes. Lots of indie devs will make good use of this.

    Thanks!! Really generous of you!!

    But do you think you can upload this as a normal zip or something, when I try to download it, it says there are no sources for me to download from.

    Thank you for the share. That probably counts as hundreds of hours of work, and its great to see you giving away such a cool package. Kudos and good luck with Ascension!

    Glad you guys can make use of these.

    @Sturstone: We cannot afford the bandwidth overhead on our site, but if someone else feels like hosting a download of the .zip then they are more than welcome to.

    Thanks

    Torrent is no good idea. Your package is too unknown for that. I wait since an hour, but not a singly byte has arrived yet. There are free hosters like Rapidshare or Hotfile. Why not upload it there? :)

    @feilyne:

    Thanks for hosting the files. We do not mind at all. In fact we would love to have more people host and upload the files elsewhere. Does anyone have any ideas as to other forums for indie developers that we could announce this on?

    Depends on whether these assets can be used with non-Unity projects. If yes, then you can find a greeaaaat deal of sites forums that wouldn't mind putting a link to one of download mirrors. ;-)

    Hi,

    Are there any restrictions for using these in a commercial (indie) game?

    They are un-rigged and un-animated. ;-P ;-)

    BTW, in which program they were made? They all are in .obj (Wavefront) format.

    @feilyne: Yes these models can be use in any application. Please feel free to use them in any manner you like. I am not sure exactly which programs each file was created in as there were several contributors and they only had to commit a .obj file.

    @Chilton: You can use these models in anything you would like, indie or commercial. All we ask is that you give Digital Roar some credit somewhere as to the originators of these models. There is no need for monetary compensation, but we would love for you to link our sites (www.digitalroar.net) and (www.ascensionwar.com) to help promote our future projects.

    Thanks

    Any other method for downloading this? I really hate bittorrent. If anything, these would be great for placeholders!

    Edit: nevermind, I just saw a post where someone is hosting. :)

    @zinks: How do you require the attribution? Would this be acceptable?

    "This game uses assets courtesy of Digital Roar Studios (www.digitalroar.net), © Digital Roar Studios Inc. 2008, 2009, 2010"

    or in my case, since I only used the sound files:

    "This game uses sound files courtesy of Digital Roar Studios (www.digitalroar.net), © Digital Roar Studios Inc. 2008, 2009, 2010"

    Do we have to include the whole GNU-LGPL license in our credits page? (Its so long!)

    @anomalous_underdog: For specifics, let me direct you to John Lyons as he would have a better idea on how to address that question. His email is john.lyons@digitalroar.net

    @jemerill: afaik, dts is the file format for Torque Game Engine's 3d models. The only importer I found for it is Shaper (http://inversesoftware.com.au/Shaper/index.php), it can then export to MilkShape 3D ASCII so I guess from there you can import it to your favorite modeling program that Unity can support (Blender, for example, can import MilkShape ASCII).

    @jemerill

    Sorry about the .dts format, but some of our prop files were only backed up in that format because we were using torque at the start of this project. We have since seen the light lol.

    Thanks,

    Zach

    Would it be beneficial and or even possible to put these assets in the new Asset Store? If so I may make the effort to do so. All assets would of course remain free and free to use.

    @zinks: Its been 2 weeks, and I haven't got a reply. Did your colleague perhaps change his email address? Anyway, we are going ahead and use sound files from your released assets in our commercial game and give attribution in the credits as this:

    This game uses sound files courtesy of Digital Roar Studios (www.digitalroar.net), (C) Digital Roar Studios Inc. 2008, 2009, 2010

    @ Zinks - Your package is a very generous donation to the Indie game development scene and I think it's a shame that there isn't more of this type of sharing happening around the world...

    @ Feilyne - thank you for hosting the files, it is also very generous of you :)

    Anyone been able to convert the .DTS files? The characters are great, and will prove useful for a bunch. I believe the same goes with the props (which are all in DTS). I only have a mac, so I cannot convert it, or else I would and I'd re-host.

    Anyone have luck?

    Are these still available? The link to Hotfile link is dead and there are no torrent sources available.

    **EDIT** never mind. I found the link.

    Has anyone downloaded and then animated these?

    We have a couple of things in the works to get these with characters with some basic mocap animations and get those files up but that probably wont be ready for prime time until the end of the summer.
