Basically for that mate I Used a large sphere then made it smaller for detail. I swapped bertween large and big with both cube and sphere.
you could put each chunk in a seperate empty. I think using 16 instances of the code is less performance damaging than having 16 terrains.
Try this out instead.... That way you don't have to worry about colliders to much... add each chunk to an empty game object centered in the middle...
