what do you mean by custom textures?
have you tried with AA? maybe increase/decrease the cutoff in the shader

i belive mtree does not support 2017 and below..

hm default branch editor is anyway only 1024x 512 pixels => you could use my enhanced version, with real normal map support for textures from 512...
